Successor to the PowerShot G11 that was released in October 2009 is the new Canon Powershot G12. It is now the latest model in the multi award-winning PowerShot G-series – a series that is remarkably trusted by professional photographers in the world.
The new model of Canon’s Powershot offers photographers the best-in-class flexibility. And with its built-in technology, the camera is reinforced with an all-round powerful performance that is matched with professional levels of control and support for a wide range of accessories. Apart from that, the Canon Powershot G12 also incorporates the HS System, which combines a 10.0-megapixel high-sensitivity CCD sensor. It also comes with Canon’s high-performance DIGIC 4 image processor, which helps enable the capturing of beautiful images with reduced noise, even in low-light conditions.
Moreover, the Canon Powershot G12 also offers an amazing technology that allows users to do the following:
- Take bright and clear images
- Get closer to distant subjects during shooting
- Photograph blur-free photos that capture different scenes and moments during nighttime or when using indoor settings — even without the need to use a flash or any other accessories
Furthermore, the Canon Powershot G12 has a revised noise-reduction technology that delivers improved resolution quality during a high-sensitivity shooting. It’s also packed with a 28 mm wide-angle lens that extends its shooting range through its built-in 5x optical zoom. The zoom feature of the camera will let you capture close to far-off objects even without compromising the quality of the image.
Now, to help keep every captured photo crystal clear and without motion blur, Canon’s Hybrid IS system is also set to kick in, while optical image stabilization takes care of the rest. The Hybrid IS counteracts unintentional shift and angular movement — as there are two kinds of camera ‘shake’ that becomes particularly pronounced as image magnification increases.
In addition, the lens of the Canon Powershot G12 has been developed using the same process and quality standards that have been employed to manufacture Canon’s range of EF lenses. This feature simply ensures the capture of sharp and more detailed shots, while still having it in its most compact size. This also functions accordingly so that the lens can retract completely into the camera body when not in use.
With the Canon Powershot G12, you’ll also be given the chance to take high quality 720p HD videos. So whether the moments are in need of snaps or you just want to capture everything in an instant, the options will just be a click away. Besides that, the latest camera model also comes with a 2.8-inch display for immediate viewing and taking of photos and videos. You can instantly save your shots to a variety of memory cards, as it’s compatible with SD/HC/XC, MulitMediaCard and MMC Plus (just to name a few).
The Canon Powershot G12 Digital Camera also has a high-resolution feature. Other than its fixed optical zoom detail, expect that this particular gadget can also deliver images in their most excellent quality. And with its 2.8-inch Vari-angle LCD screen, navigating and exploring your amazing shots from the menu will surely be a breeze.
What’s more, the Canon Powershot G12 720p HD camera is also equipped to record videos in high definition. This also gives you the option of combining multiple shots into just one picture, using only the scene mode. And with the optical image stabilizer, the newest G-series camera helps ensures you of blur-free images.
Moreover, the Canon Powershot G12 is also accompanied by a high speed 2.0 USB and memory card slot. The memory card won’t be included though, so purchasing one is highly recommended.

Here is a costumer review as a proof that the Canon Powershot G12 is really a highly recommended camera:
As I’m an old film guy who has resisted digital photography almost as much as dentist visits, I’ve really avoided making the jump. Of course, I’ve had a few small point and shoot cameras for quick snapshots. But recently, I’ve found it necessary to get a camera with more capabilities and quality. I’d love to have a higher-end DSLR, but flying these days really doesn’t lend itself to lugging a big camera bag with a couple of lenses, flash, etc. I gripe just taking my shoes off at the security checkpoint. And I am avoiding paying checked bag fees as much as I possibly can! Then, along comes Canon with this G12. Remember, I’m an old film guy, so I like some controls. But after 5 minutes playing with this camera, I was most impressed. Startup – it’s ready to go in a flash. Focus – spot on for 99% of the photos I’ve shot (nothing’s perfect), and that 1% I can peg on me for focus issues. Low light? Simply amazing! This camera’s ability to compensate for low light is borderline spooky. Combined with the lens image stabilization, I’ve taken shots that would have required a tripod, cable release, and good old-fashioned luck with a film camera. Sports mode is very good. While the ‘rapid-fire’ shots aren’t blazing fast, they are sharp, clean, and quick.

- HDR mode
- DIGIC 4 image processor

The Canon Powershot G12 also offers a comprehensive support for a wide range of accessories, as it assists in expanding a variety of creative possibilities, while providing enhanced results in certain shooting situations. A new lens filter adapter, the FA-DC58B can also be attached directly to the lens barrel ring, as it provides the ability to attach 58 mm diameter Canon filters – such as a Circular Polarizer, Neutral Density, Protect and UV. The FA-DC58B was also designed to move along with the lens while zooming. It also prevents vignetting at the wide-angle end of the zoom, while providing filter coverage throughout the full optical zoom range of the lens.
