The samsung digimax i6 is the “world’s first” PMP (Portable Media Player) digital camera – the camera will play Xvid MPEG4 videos on it’s 2.5″ screen. The camera also features MP3 playback. The samsung digimax i6 is a 6.1 megapixel digital camera with a high resolution 2.5″ screen, and a 3x optical zoom lens. The 3x optical zoom lens is equivalent to 39 – 117mm on a 35mm camera. The samsung digimax i6 is compact 6 megapixel digital camera. The samsung digimax i6 camera is enclosed in a sturdy metal body and is available in black or silver. The camera has a VGA 30fps video mode with sound. The samsung digimax i6 camera is very compact, and is particularly thin – it measures: 96 x 61 x 18.5mm, and weighs approx. 129.5g excluding batteries and media.
The Samsung digimax i6 compared with Samsung nv3
These two cameras have the same quality in terms of cpaturing quality images. The samsung digimax i6 with a high resolution 2.5″ screen, built in speaker and headphone socket, is well suited as a compact and portable media player – the digital camera supports XVID video recording and playback. The samsung digimax i6 XVID video format is a high compression video format that allows a good length video to fit in a small amount of memory, for example a 60 minutes video at 320×240 resolution and 30fps would take around 260mb – meaning you should be able to fit nearly 2 hours on a 512mb card assuming nothing else is on the memory card. On the other hand, samsung nv3 can print directly to any PictBridge compatible printer using its USB cable. Power is supplied by a proprietary Lithium Ion rechargeable battery. Like so many camera manufacturers, Samsung builds memory into the camera rather than putting a memory card in the box. On the samsung nv3 there’s just 15MB of onboard memory, which holds a paltry four images at the highest quality setting. What that means is that you’ll need to buy a memory card right away, which increases the initial purchase price of the camera. If you’re just taking pictures I’d say that a 512MB card is a good starter size. If you’re going to be watching movies or listening to music then you should be looking at a 2GB card. The samsung nv3 uses the same SLB-0837 lithium-ion battery as a few of Samsung’s other cameras. The samsung nv3 also offers a Movie mode, capturing clips at up to 720 x 480 resolution with audio, at a frame rate of up to 30 frames per second using MPEG4 compression, which offers higher quality, and better compression than the Motion JPEG compression used in most cameras. The samsung digimax i6 comes with XVID video codec software for playback on the PC, plus XVID codec encoding software called Samsung Digimax Convertor that will allow you to convert the majority of video files into a suitable XVID video for playback on the samsung digimax i6. Converting a 60 minute file on a 1.5ghz “Centrino” laptop took around 30 minutes. After converting the file, you will need to copy the file to folder called PMP on your memory card. You can fast forward or rewind at 2x, 4x, 8x, 16x, or 32x. Converted files can be played back in Windows Media Player, and unfortunately for Apple users, Samsung Digimax Convertor is only available for Windows 2000 / XP computers. If the video source is in widescreen you can crop it or stretch it to fit the full screen of the samsung digimax i6. Click here for more of samsung digimax i6 excellent features.
Here is a summary of samsung digimax i6 review from a satisfied customer:
How Sweet it is, the Digimax i6
I have had a lot experience with a variety of cameras, and I have never had more fun with a camera than with the Samsung Digimax i6. It is compact, will easily fit in my pocket. It produces great pictures that are viewable on the large built-in screen. It is easy to get those pictures on to my PC or laptop and either printed or placed onto a CD or DVD for a slide show on a TV. The buttons are efficient and easy to use. The video comes out really well and includes sound. It is rather easy to get the video processed and on to a DVD for storage and viewing on any DVD player. The manual could be more helpful about how to do this, but it did not take long to figure out the steps. I would be happy with this camera with just the photography. But, WOW, this camera does about everyting, including MP3 for music, PMP for movies and\or film clips, text photo with conversion to a word processor, an audio recorder for memos or other recording. Samsung engineers created a winner with this camera.
The samsung digimax i6 MP3 player is very easy to setup and use, simply copy your MP3s to a folder called MP3 on your memory card. You can take 3 megapixel photos while listening to MP3s, however as soon as you exit the MP3 mode or enter the MP3 player’s menu, MP3 playing will stop. There is an optical docking station available for the samsung digimax i6. Battery life seemed good, using the provided battery. The samsung digimax i6 switch on time is fairly quick but could be quicker, and takes around 2 seconds to switch on and become ready to take a photo. Focusing is quick at around 0.4 seconds – shutter response is a bit slow at around 0.2 seconds. The samsung digimax i6 shot to shot time is around 2 seconds, with flash on this slows down to around 3 seconds between shots. Playback mode is quick, and its easy to zoom in on your last shot and check for blur with the zoom control. Moving from picture to picture is quick but you can also get an overview of 9 shots at a time if you zoom out one more notch. Moving around the different menu options is rapid.

The samsung digimax i6 has the following Pros and cons:
Pros:
- Sturdy, compact, stylish body
- Good image quality – high colour saturation
- Very good value for money
- MP3 Player
- Video player built in with very good compression
- Advanced Shake Reduction can work well in some situations
- Very good macro mode, EXCELLENT super macro mode
Cons:

Conclusion:
Using the Advanced Shake Reduction system is also somewhat of a learning curve as best results are achieved in fairly limited lighting conditions. Image quality of samsung digimax i6 is very good for an ultra compact digital camera – the images have good colour with very high saturation, good contrast, quite good detail, with low noise except at higher ISO settings. The samsung digimax i6 indoors photos were good, with noise kept fairly low, although there was noticable red eye. Purple fringing was noticed in one of the shots.
