Pentax K-x announced as a second digital SLR camera of 2009 of Pentax, a new consumer digital SLR kit that’s packed with great features. Four body colors are available, the standard black or white, plus “special, limited edition” red and navy bodies. K-x comes with an 18-55mm kit lens and a 12.4-megapixel camera with sensor-shift image stabilization, a 2.7-inch LCD, Live View mode, and a 720p movie mode. Pentax K-x capable of 4.6 frames per second, also the K-x’s top shutter speed is 1/6,000 second. Though the camera includes Pentax’s 11-point SAFOX VIII AF system, Pentax K-x is hampered inexplicably by the lack of an AF-point overlay in the optical viewfinder, which means there’s no visual confirmation of which points are in focus.
Also from Pentax is the Pentax K-r, it was first introduced to the public last September 2010, one year after Pentax K-x was introduced. It has functions that are very easy to use and more advanced features compared to the previous Pentax models. Pentax K-r and K-x may actually look the same but when we talk about their features, Pentax K-r is more advanced than Pentax K-x in various areas. Critics have been complaining about K-x and K-m’s lack of active focus point in the viewfinder when the shutter button is half-pressed. Therefore, Pentax has featured this for their Pentax K-r. This is also the reason why Pentax K-r’s prism is quite bigger than the Pentax K-x’s. Pentax K-r remains compact and lightweight despite its 23.6mm x 15.8mm image sensor and stainless-steel chassis. In addition, Pentax K-r has an in-body Shake Reduction technology to avoid having blurred photos. That way, you can achieve clearer and more detailed photos. Pentax K-r features an extraordinary speed when shooting continuously. It can record as many as 25 images for a one-time sequence at a maximum speed of about six images per second. Still, you can have a sharp, detailed and crisp photos even for fast moving subjects. Get this Pentax K-r best features here.
Surprisingly the K-x also includes the K-7′s HDR modes, and it also has the Digital filters, as well as a new Cross Process mode that randomly emulates several results that you’d only get by cross-processing film with different types of developer. Small and light, the K-x seems like a well-built, no-nonsense digital SLR, with perhaps only one flaw: the lack of visible AF points. To get the best of Pentax K-x, click here.
Here is a summary of Pentax K-x review from a satisfied customer:
The Pentax K-x is a giant killer!
I recently upgraded from my beloved Olympus e-510 DSLR with the 14-42mm and 40-150mm kits lenses in order to get a DSLR with better low-light performance and HD video capabilities. I loved my Olympus, but image quality took a nose-dive at ISO 800, and I liked the idea of having an HD camcorder built into my camera to capture high quality family photos and home videos in one device. I eventually settled on the Pentax K-x after first buying, and then returning, a Canon T2i. I know that the T2i costs almost twice as much as the K-x, and they’re not direct competitors, but I think my experience illustrates what a great camera and bargain the K-x is and how, for me at least, it was a giant killer.
The Pentax K-x digital SLR is available in three different kit versions, and two body colors — either black or white. After wowing us earlier last year with the Pentax K-r, we’re surprised to see Pentax back at it so quickly with the light and nimble Pentax K-x. The K-x’s list of features is impressive, including much of what was introduced on the K-r. When loaded with lithium batteries, the Pentax K-x weighs 20.5 ounces (581 grams) — a full six ounces (170 grams) lighter than the magnesium alloy-bodied K-7. A significant part of that savings comes thanks to the K-x’s use of a fiber-reinforced plastic polymer body over a stainless steel chassis, and the exclusion of any weather sealing. The Pentax K-x’s body is also about 0.2 to 0.3 inches (5 to 8 millimeters) smaller in every dimension and is among the smallest true digital SLRs available.
